| The Musion Academy –
What is it?
Musion has always been keen to foster relationships
with academia and the general public. The Musion Academy is the
institutionalised forum for students, artists and people from the
creative industries to create holographic projection, live stream
content and engage with the Musion technology in their own creative
field. Everyone who is interested in this technology is invited
to partake in the Musion Academy– designed to explain the
technology and to enable YOU to explore your creative potential.
Musion Academy Workshops
– free and open to anyone -
The Musion Academy allows you to learn about the past,
future and present of Musion as a creative technology tool, a holographic
projection technique, a live-telepresence vehicle and a new medium.
Investigate your own visual style, learn about the do’s and
dont's of the medium and create your own content – your own
visual language, your own Musion hologram.
The workshops are organised in theoretical and practical
units. This gives you the technical framework and creative know
how to enable you to come up with your own ideas. Guest lecturers
will report on aspects of the medium, and peer review discussions
will allow you to reflect on your own progress in developing content.
Explore what it takes to create holographic illusions, stage varieties
and real time 3D effects in the performing arts.

The Workshops
Our courses are structured in 7 modules to deliver all the knowledge
necessary to consider your own holographic artworks - creatively
and technically. We provide you with access to our cutting edge
facilities and help you to create, test and develop your own holographic
projections. Workshops are taking place on Wednesdays from 4-6 and

History of Musion and Optical Illusions
In this session, we are covering not only the history of Pepper’s
Ghost and other apparati of optical illusions from the phantasmagoria
to the panorama. This lesson is designed to present you with the
history of optical illusions altogether. From Roman Frescoes to
the quadratura of the Baroque - we are discussing different examples
of what optical illusions achieved all over centuries. Musion’s
own history is high-lighted as we run through a number of examples
from recent & early shows.

Project Management for Musion
In this session, we are explaining Musion’s production pipeline
- from conceptualising an idea, briefing the client on technical
specs and creative options to event planning, show control systems
and all the consequences that these decisions entail for the production
process. Stage design, choice and advantages of different Musion
setups are discussed as much as the dos and don’ts of content
production.
Narratives and Musion

Telling a story on Musion is very similar to directing a theatre
play! Various factors distinguish Musion from cinema: Pan, tilt
and zooms as different modes of visual narration give way to performative
actions, interactive interplay. The screen dissolves and opens up
to incorporate a stage. We discuss the differences between storyboarding
for Musion, cinema and stereoscopic systems. Students/Artists are
enticed to conceptualise their own storyboard and work on their
own narrative.

Filming for Musion
In this session, we explain all that there is to
know about filming for Musion - from camera pros and cons, lighting
setup, lenses to the specifics of your filming room - we cover it
all. Participants get access to the filming facilities in the Musion
studio. We discuss specifics and anomalies in filming for Musion
- in a very hands-on approach. The vast database of previous Musion
shows, from David Beckham to Girls Aloud, from Prince Charles to
Lewis Hamilton serves as reference for the participants’ own
artistic productions.

Animation for Musion
After an introduction into the history of Animation, we run through
the 10 golden rules on how to produce for Musion. We disclose the
most important guidelines, the specifics of animation for Musion.
Reflection, transparencies, ideal rotation speed - parameters unique
to Musion are discussed on behalf of various examples: From the
Gorillaz, to life-size spinning cars in 3D - the animation lesson
will showcase the best of the Musion portfolio. Even better, students
get to present their own creations on the Musion screen.

Musion and Projection Art
History of projection art is the ABC to students of the Musion system:
eternal questions on the role of spectatorship and authorship are
completely redefined within the context of the apparatus. After
discussing a number of milestones in the history of digital art,
we showcase artistic production on the screen. The Academy is a
great forum for creativity. This lesson presents the best of the
best of the Academy. Participants discuss their own projects within
the context of visual art.

Musion and Lighting Design
Lighting is one of the m ost important factors when creating a Musion
reel. Lighting not only enhances the illusion, but establishes illusionistic
effects by high-lighting different layers of depth within the stage
setup. The Academy has been collaborating with one of the best lighting
schools in the UK. Rose Bruford’s lighting department and
the Musion Academy analyzed lighting for Musion in theory and practise.
Academy artists work on their own lighting designs in collaboration
with future industry professionals.
Call for Experts
If you are a representative of an academic institution engaging
with 3D Visualisation please feel free to contact us any time.
As an academic institution, you are the perfect counterparts for
engaging in a dialogue on new media and its creative and educational
potential.
We organize free workshops to explain the technology - workshops
that will ultimately enable you to adapt and develop the system,
to discuss it and work with it creatively. Feel free to offer our
workshops to your students. Any participation is more than welcome
as you, your colleagues and your students are the experts that we
would love to work with. Please contact the Musion Academy any time
to arrange for a meeting on future cooperation:
